Ho trovato queste fotografie in un luogo abbandonato. Non conosco i nomi delle persone ritratte, ne tantomeno le vite che hanno condotto. Sono intervenuto fisicamente sulle immagini cancellando via parti di volto e in particolare gli occhi. Questo a significare che la loro vita, eroica in quanto vissuta e quindi conquistata, è svanita senza lasciare alcuna traccia. Gli occhi del mondo non si sono posati su di loro. Non c’è possibilità di documentare una vita, tantomeno se quella vita non viene annoverata tra quelle degne di uno studio approfondito.
E così, migliaia, milioni di vite vengono inghiottite dal tempo. Dovremmo scrivere un libro per ogni uomo vissuto, per ogni vita trascorsa. Questo progetto spero serva a proiettare l’ombra di questi sconosciuti nella storia del mondo. Ogni uomo è un eroe.
I found these photographs in an abandoned house. I do not know the names of the people, nor anything about the life that they led. I cancelled out part of the face and in particular the eyes in order to signify that their life, heroic by their very esistence, has vanished without trace. The eyes of the world were never upon them, nor is it possible to document the lifes of these people who did not merit any deeper consideration. Milions of such lifes have been swallowed up by time. We should write a book about every man who has ever lived, about every life completed. I hope this study will serve to project the shadow of these people on the history of the world. Every man is a hero.
